Honduran Call Centers
The literal meaning of Honduras translates to “depths” in English, which could refer to the nation’s coastal Caribbean shores but also to the Central American nation’s growing competitiveness as a nearshore call center destination.
Serving as the center of the country’s business process outsourcing growth (BPO), the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa offers a vibrant and expanding workforce across a population of more than one million people.
In addition, Honduras has enjoyed a gradual increase in global competitiveness across the region, rivaling (and perhaps) surpassing many neighboring countries.
The Call Center Industry in Honduras
As a nearshore option, leaders have often considered Honduras for its close proximity to the U.S., with direct flights from major U.S. cities, like Houston and Miami, in less than three hours. But that is just scratching the surface, as Honduras has continued to differentiate itself from other nearshore destinations in government policy, economics, and infrastructure.
The Honduran government has created an economy that can offer BPO organizations competitive labor wages, business incentives, and technology advantages, including a world-class fiber-optic network to deliver turnkey BPO services for global organizations.
The Call Center Workforce in Honduras
As call center services in Honduras continue to mature, the workforce is poised to meet the demands for highly-skilled and scalable front-line agents.
To support this need, the Honduran government collaborated with a collection of partner nations in support of the Central American Technological University (UNITEC), which provides technical, vocational, and language training for local graduates to enter the BPO industry. The program currently enrolls more than 10,000 students.
This effort focuses on equipping the working population of Honduras – 78% of working age, with a median age of only 23 – to contribute to the growing sectors that support Honduran economic growth.
