Doug Thompson

Doug has spent his over 30-year career in the mid-market technology, software, and services businesses serving the utility, financial, telecommunications and healthcare industries. His core areas of management expertise include sales and marketing, executive leadership, mergers and acquisitions, customer relationship development, and operations. Doug has led organizations to create over $1 billion in shareholder value over the last 22 years.

Since late 2005 Doug has provided advisory services through his company NextStep Solutions. His assists technology / services companies scale through focus on sales development, corporate acquisitions, C-suite leadership, and enabling private equity investments. Since 2017 NextStep has also partnered with Acresis to provide interim sales and executive management for founder owned companies in preparation for strategic or financial investment.

From June of 2018 to September of 2021 Doug was the President/CEO of Agilify, a high-growth Ascension Ministry Services d.b.a. responsible for Intelligent Automation Advisory software and services. Prior to Agilify Doug served as the CEO, President, and Director at MedData, Inc., a private equity backed company providing revenue cycle management services for the healthcare industry. Under his leadership, MedData acquired 4 companies, added 4 new healthcare specialties, achieved a CAGR of 22% for revenue and 31% for profit, and increased valuation over 7x through a successful sale of the company to a strategic buyer. Prior to MedData, he was the Chairman and CEO of Open-c Solutions where he developed the company into a mainstream utility software company then sold the company to Accenture. He also served as President and COO of NWP Services (Open-c’s parent company) during the same period of time, where he was responsible for all day to day operations of this private equity owned multi-family real estate billing services company. Other key executive roles included: Chairman, CEO and President of Avolent, Inc., a venture backed company providing enterprise software solutions for electronic bill presentment and payment and interactive customer care for utilities, banking and telecommunications; President of the Electronic Commerce Division and Senior Vice President of Customer Operations / Sales of DST Output (OTS), a public company providing paper and electronic bill statement outsourcing for over 150 million bills and statements per month; for Vice President roles at Xerox including sales, customer relationship, and marketing roles over a span of 6 years; and Vice President and General Manager of Sage Data, Inc., a private econometrics and statistics services company serving the chemical and utility industries.

Doug has served on several corporate boards including MedData, Open-c Solutions, Broadband Mechanics, Avolent, VestaCare and Edentree, Inc. as well as industry association boards and non-profit boards.

Doug is a graduate of Harvard University. He currently resides in the Sacramento, California area with his wife Christine and has two grown daughters, Allena and Adrien. He enjoys many sports including water and snow skiing, backcountry / helicopter skiing, hockey, cycling and he is a USSA certified coach and competition official which he utilizes to coach ski racing as a vehicle for developing character in young adults.
